Clarendon Park
Chicago Park District
Civiltech Engineering, Inc. was the prime consultant of a multidisciplinary team that included landscape architecture, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. Originally Clarendon Park was included as part of the Chicago Park District’s 2007 Districtwide playground program, however, due to funding constraints the project was delayed until 2009. Civiltech services included parking lot geometrics, site grading, sewer design, and storm water management.
Clarendon Park improvements were segmented in to two construction phases. The first phase included constructing a proposed playlot on open land while maintaining the existing playlot for the Park District and community to use during the summer months. Phase I construction was completed in October 2009. Phase II involved removing the old playlot and constructing a 30-space public parking lot. Phase II is nearly finished, with completion targeted for early Summer of 2011. Since sandy soils were present, permeable pavers were a viable option for infiltrating storm water. The parking stalls utilize concrete permeable pavers on top of 12 inches of CA-7 aggregate base.
