Greenebaum Park

Chicago Park District

Civiltech Engineering, Inc. is the prime consultant on a multidisciplinary team that includes landscape architecture, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. Civiltech is providing the civil engineering components for this park involving the site grading, sewer design, and storm water management.

The existing site is divided by Kildare Avenue, with the Chicago Park District’s Greenebaum Park located east of Kildare and the Public Building Commission’s North Grand High School located west of Kildare. The proposed improvement involves removing the Kildare roadway and connecting the two facilities for construction of a multi-use (baseball, soccer, football) artificial turf field. The improvement also includes a jogging path, pedestrian lighting, and a new layout design of the Greenebaum Park playground with new play equipment and spray pool.

Storm water management calculations were complex since the proposed improvement spanned differing land uses with the Kildare Right-of-Way remaining in place. The artificial turf needed to be designed to appear seamless from the surface while the stone sub-base was graded to meet differing storage requirements for the site’s varying areas. Furthermore, since the site was larger than 1.75 acres, a downstream sewer capacity analysis was required to determine the allowable release rate.
