Civiltech Engineering, Inc. was the prime consultant on this project to remove the existing five lane bridge, having completely replaced it with a longer, two-span, ten-lane structure. This is a heavily congested interchange with the Tri-State Tollway which requires close monitoring of all traffic control.
Civiltech provided the required bridge construction inspection, including submittals, RFI’s, utility coordination, documentation, field inspection, layout verification, and coordination with the contractors on this project and the adjacent Tollway reconstruction, as well as the tenants of the two massive business parks on either side of the interchange.
The structural components of this project include metal shell piles, integral abutments, steel beams erected over the Tollway, ten-lane wide deck requiring multiple pours, and stage lines. The project also includes over one half mile of three lanes in each direction, full depth concrete pavement and dual left turn lanes, concrete ramps, four traffic signals, lighting, and underground drainage.
