Traffic Engineer - Chicago, IL  Posted on 9/20/17

This position requires a B.S. in Civil Engineering with 4+ years of experience, Professional Engineer license preferred, and a minimum of 2 years of traffic engineering and design experience. This position requires a self-motivated individual who possesses the ability to successfully complete traffic engineering studies and designs, manage a large volume of requests, assign workload to field survey staff, coordinate directly with City officials, and attend senior staff meetings to report on project status.

The traffic engineer would perform traffic safety studies, field surveys, designs of traffic calming improvements, and cost estimates. The candidate must be fluent in Microstation and Excel. Strong organization and communication skills, and the ability to work in a team atmosphere are essential.

This position requires a bachelor´s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Intern or co-op experience in the transportation field is desirable. The candidate should have the ability to obtain Fundamentals of Engineering registration within 1 year. The preferred candidate will gain knowledge of the Phase I environmental and location design study process for both Federal-aid and non-federally funded projects. The candidate will become familiar with IDOT Traffic Signal Design Guidelines and general traffic signal design and operation as well as gain knowledge of IDOT Design Criteria, policies and procedures.
