Devon Ave. & Tonne Rd./ Wood Dale Road STP Intersection Improvement
This Federal-Aid project consisted of widening and resurfacing the intersection of Devon Avenue and Tonne Road/Wood Dale Road to provide dual left turn channelization on Devon Avenue, and exclusive right turn lanes on Tonne Road and the west leg of Devon Avenue. This intersection is one of the primary entrances into Elk Grove Village´s Business Park. Turning radii were increased to safely and efficiently accommodate the large truck sizes. Also included was traffic signal modernization and providing continuous sidewalk within the Village.
In addition to Federal and Village funding for this project, County monies were secured as part of the project. The Phase I engineering services included preparation of base maps, geometric studies, an Intersection Design Study, drainage studies, cost estimates, preparation of an accident analysis and traffic analyses as well as public involvement. Civiltech also provided Phase II and Land Acquisition services to the Village for this project.
This Federal Aid, IDOT let project also included Phase III Construction Engineering. Civiltech provided full inspection, layout, and project documentation. Coordination was accomplished by our Resident Engineer through regular progress meetings and on site presence. Concerns of all project stakeholders were addressed including the complicated utility relocations.
Of special note was the coordination required to pave this heavily travelled intersection with over one foot in depth of new bituminous roadway while still in use by motorists.
